So the new Warcry stuff arrived today and one thing that interested me (that Cthulu was basically grumbling about not having previously) is the brand new Champion mode.
You start with a 1,000 point warband. None of this stick any 20 people on your roster nonsense. You start with a full 1,000 point warband and that's it. No backup fighters. No reserves. You can hire more warband members later to increase your warband size but they cost Glory.
You roll on a much more serious casualty recovery table. People can die. Permanent injuries are possible too.
You roll on nicer reward tables.
Different tables for territory.
Not everybody has to be playing in Champion Mode. You decide if you're playing in Champion mode or not and if your opponent isn't, that's fine. Champion mode only affects the stuff that happens inbetween games. You'll get much nicer rewards but you'll take a real kicking if you start suffering heavy losses.
Basically Champion Mode = Consequences.

ooh, that adds a notehr dimension to the game, and with the "limited" card selection may make games less varied but more pl;aytable
I bought the new stormcaste warband and its actually got some counters in there and i hope it doesnt repeat cards out of the stormcast card pack, ( but i expect it will:)

I bought the book, the Kharadron Overlords pack, the Stormcast warrior chambers pack (which manages to include all the Stormcast except for the ones I've got) and a second Kharadron Overlords pack because somehow Wayand Games managed to get it in stock and send it before I could cancel the order.
Thundrik's Profiteers from Shadespire come to exactly 680 points meaning you'd need to buy a £30 box full of about 10 figures for the 4 more you'd actually need.
The Fyreslayer deck isn't out yet.

Buy starts collecting. Then you’ve got a boat to fight around (even if it’s just cool scenery)

More stuff: they revised the glory rewards table to punish losers less/let winners run away ahead of the game less so it's more balanced in campaigns.
Speaking of campaigns the more dwarf themed campaigns all have rewards related to the value of abilities so the Fyreslayers have got to either have multiple "value of" abilities or one really good one. Conversely the Kharadron overlords only have 1 "value of" ability. When you see the Fyreslayers have a reward that's "+2 to the value of abilities" or "whenever you use an ability it always has a value of 6 regardless of the dice assigned to it" it gives the impression that "value of" abilities are going to be important for them. Probably something to do with damage. Like everyone within 6" of the leader gets to add half the value of the die to all damage they do for the rest of the round (although given the fact that one of the rewards specifies while within 9" of the leader, a 9" aura might be much more relevant than some theoretical 6" one).
They're also the only faction deck to be released this year which isn't up for preorder yet. Of the 15 new factions this year they've released 6 and another 8 will be going up for preorder this weekend. That's an oddly specific number. It makes me wonder what will eventually go up for preorder for Warcry with the Fyreslayers. The two new chaos gangs from book 1? You know. The gladiators and the religious guys. Perhaps those big monsters they've been holding off on? They'll probably be saving them for another Monsters book later this year.
Speaking of Monsters... there's a scenario where nobody plays warbands. You just each bring a large monster and everybody fights each other. That should be nice and fun. I know they called it the Monster Melee but I'm sure someone's going to call it a Monster Mash.
I'm getting excited about playing Warcry again but I don't have all the stuff I'd want to field ready yet so waiting is good.
