It cannot have escaped the attention of all present that, last night, there was a somewhat heated disagreement during the game of Warmaster that I was involved in. It came down to the use of the words "individual spell" in this section here.
My opponent insisted (quite incorrectly, in my opinion) that since each spell on his army's spell list is "an individual spell" (as in, not the same as any of the other spells on his list) then I should only be able to successfully use anti magic to dispel any one spell on his list once per magic phase. I strongly disagree. My interpretation of that sentence is that, if he casts a spell then I only get one anti magic roll regardless of how many runesmiths I may have in range capable of negating it.
The way it played out was almost a perfect example.
Player A had 3 wizards.
Player B has a runesmith.
Player A attempted to cast a spell with the first wizard and failed.
Player A then successfully cast the same spell with the second wizard. Player B successfully negated the spell with dwarven anti magic.
Player A then successfully cast the spell with the third wizard and proceeded to argue that no anti magic roll should be allowed because it is "the same individual spell that was cast previously and thus cannot be anti magicked". Player B disagrees.
This then lead to a long drawn out argument and I'm not entirely sure I managed to avoid impolite and insulting language.
We apparently have a ruling in from the wise ones of the internet.
I'm sorry but that's about as clear as mud to me. I'm not sure if he means that it always counts as the same individual spell or if he means that each instance counts as an individual spell.
To me it seems fairly clear that my opponent was fixating on the phrase "but only one attempt can be made to anti-magic any individual spell" ignoring the remainder of that sentence and arguing for advantage the same way Comstar used to do (and probably still does, for that matter). It feels strongly against the spirit of the rules and honestly, if that kind of abuse of out of context wording is going to persist then I think I'll just have to stop playing Warmaster because this disagreement took too much fun out of the experience and I don't need that kind of bother being part of something that we're supposed to enjoy together. supposed to enjoy.
A Runesmith can attempt to anti-magic any
number of spells in a turn, but only one attempt can be made to
anti-magic any individual spell - even if the army includes more
than one Runesmith and several are in range of the enemy

Instances of the same spell by a different caster is an individual spell.
