This came up so I asked on the Mantic forum

Oh Hive mind. 2 opposing fighters have been suppressed and are in the same cube, neither has yet activated this round. One activates and wants to flee. Does the other fighter becomes unpinned to fight or can the first one flee without fear of a free strike?

Ooo, following to see the answer. Good question. My assumption is that you would be free to leave. If you choose to fight they would automatically stand up and you would get an additional die in your attack

Thank you for the swift reply. It wasn't a situation we found the rule book covering. If someone can point to chapter and verse it would be greatly appreciated

A fight is a long action. As you aren't moving in you don't get a free fight. Moving out is fine - the opponent would stand up but as he/she/it was suppressed they could only survive. Thus enabling you to leave the cube. Admittedly you couldn't do anything else unless you used a command dice - stand up and move are both short actions which fills your quota.

But if that model is also pinned and it's not there activation they surly not eligible to be chosen. They're still cowering in a safe place watching the bullets fly overhead. That to us seems to be the issue. When all models in a cube are pinned, the first to activate shouldn't immediately become prey.

Model that was pinned can only Survive so there is no kicking back.

The first to be activated stands up, then if they want to flee, the other one stands up and the active unit flees without having to roll. (I asked the question to Matt as I'm translating the game into French)

Raph Pikagames Thank you for the clarification. Makes sense to have a safe option to run away when there is (at that time) no other active model in the cube.

Right, I thought not - That Sisterhood Enforcer and Giant Rat Fiend were pinned. Sister gets up, Dirty Rat rises from the ground snorts and Sister can do what she likes except fight the rat whom also can't fight her. If either of them hang around they can only make Survive tests. To do funky stuff - use your command dice.

Maybe Raff could have Stood Up, Walked out of the cube, used a shoot command dice to ruin the Rats day or if available suppressed him again.

mark - does this mean the rat has now activated this turn?

mark said the Rat standing up is a 'free action'.

Run sister run or that rat is going to catch you

Or at least shoot in with someone else. It was also an objective square so the big rat has an incentive to stand there and get shot instead of following for the kill (although it was a 1 point objective and a 2 point kill which would then allow me to hop on the objective with someone else if I wanted to).

BREAKING AWAY:
I am model A breaks away from a cube with a pinned model B it get attacked by it, right? I can not find anything that says B can not attack A.

In v2 When a pinned model stands up it could only survive. In the v3 book it doesn't read clearly, but I'd say the same thing happens.

I mean A is a standing model in a cube with pinned enemy model B. A leaves, B... free slashes. (?)

Yep. If B is pinned it can only survive. Though it could probably stand up for free.

A model leaving a cube with a pinned model does not need to test to break away. A pinned model standing up in a fight may only survive. These are 3rdED rules.

Breaking away says to pick 1 model to make a free Assault action, right? So pinned model is being picked. It assaults but can only survives as it just stood up...

A pinned Model that is a target of a fight action will stand up, and then may only SURVIVE in the Fight. A breaking away triggers a free Fight, but a pinned model may not initiate a fight, so it is ineligible.

Mich Cie Yes, this is the same scenario as if two models, both suppressed, would "initiate" a fight , pg26. "both models Stand Up, but no fight
takes place (in effect they would both roll Survive tests
which would result in no damage)." So yes, if you target a model to "fight" against a breaking away enemy and you target a pinned model, that one may stand up, no damage or anything else happens.

Claudio Mac Shepherd "target a pinned model" sounds a bit misleading. If your opponent tries to break away, you pick which model in the cube can fight them as they leave. You could pick a pinned model, which would just stand and can only survive.
