According to the rulebook some of the heroes are more complicated than others - more synergies, more moving parts etc, while others are simpler. Simpler doesn't mean less powerful. It just means less complicated. There's a handy list on page 6 of the Story Rulebook which I thought I'd replicate here (perhaps links to more information and maybe even pictures if I can find them).
