I asked the FB group on Monday about this
I had one reply which was
May be an option to have a line of units just behind - so that the skellies can't be placed there

Something I'm sure we forget
When fighting Skellies two lines are better than one

Yh i saw yuor post on FB I also searched, and there are others who think it is either waaay OP or a bit hazy You see the above also says , has to be in touch with combat or support , cannot be in contact with support, so again creates confusion. But from the rest of the description you kinda realise that they are suggesting complete seperate units behind the Unit in combat , Its doesnt help that a stand of figures touching the stand of figures in combat , is called a supporting unit, and they also refer to a "floating nearby" Unit as a support unit also i also didnt understand teh answer of column are better defence for this, surely separated lines are a better defense, so as to cause separate combats wich cant be done Also if the generally accepted result is place anywhere , im ok with that , but seeing as im actually reading rules these days, i want tog et it right Also the Spell thast acts "Like a shooting " pushback , that skelleis are immune to , surely still works as it is a spell , not a shooting attack ? or are spells considered shooting I didnt question it on the night as the "raise dead" issue was in full flow I suppose its the only down side of having easy quick use rules, theres a few possible ambiguities

But it's good to talk things though. Toby and I intend to do a couple of tournaments next year - so it would be good to see how the hive mind do things. But as I and apparently even Nemesis read rule books I thought to look a few bits up I think we need to set up some photos and ask the hive mind what is legal / illegal positioning of the Raised unit

That is an interesting point about splitting the engagement. If I understand that right they are suggesting that by raising dead so they only contact a supporting unit (the position we didn’t place them in the end) that would’ve essentially created two separate combats because neither of the goblin units would be involved in the combat of the other (either by supporting or fighting). Which harks back to mine and bens argument over what is and isn’t separate combats. In this instance, on reflection, I think this situation would be two separate combats but would need to double check the rules again on separate combats.
Where we placed the raised dead unit, in the end, would be legal because my unit was fighting both the initially charged unit of gobbos and one stand of the supporting unit (the other two stands would still be supporting). That therefore would still be one combat/engagement. All something I will have to bear in mind when next I use the spell.
With regards to your pushback spell it specifically states “pushed back as of from shooting” which is why I was able to ignore it in that specific scenario - because of my ability to not give way and not be confused. If I’d not had a unit behind that had to give way then the spell would have worked normally. So the spell will work on TK but you have to be careful which unit you use it on. It won’t work on units like slayers or witch elves though as they cannot be pushed back by shooting.
In summary I think what we did in the end was correct but what I wanted to do was most likely wrong.

Actually no what you wanted to do was potentially right but the higher risk move, if their had been a third unit in the one you charged it would have been wrong, we got a full explanation yesterday from our visitor yesterday and given he was part of the original playtest group he probably knows. It would seem the amount of units involved in someways is the deciding factor😂🤣so apologies to you, also it was suggested the way we played it was the gentleman’s way but the other way is a more gamesmanship but legal way. But he did show us an absolutely rotten but legal power move that undead can exploit majorly 🤣😂

Are you going to share this power move?

Q and A on warmaster revs says;
“Raise Dead - Q - Are there any other restrictions in placing a raised unit of skeletons into combat? A - Actually there is one. A raised unit cannot be placed so that it would split a combat into two separate engagements. This typically happens when a unit of infantry supported by another unit from behind is charged by a undead unit to the front and a new unit is raised so it only touches the supporting enemy unit.“
Don’t know if this is a difference between original rules and revolutions but it looks like your guru was wrong and what I tried to do would be illegal.

Yeah was very interesting to also see how others play, yes of course I will share it, need to be shown it rather than explained. I was two tables away and I think I got the gist of it. It's a dirty trick that sounds complicated. I got a basic picture in my head but I wouldn't mind seeing if I'm close to correct. It wasn't to do with splitting the combat up but something more devious.
